Ultraviolet-Irradiated Herpes Simplex Virus
L cells lacking thymidine kinase (TK) activity (Ltkcells) have been stably transformed to a TK-positive phenotype by infection with ultraviolet-irradiated herpes simplex virus (HSV-UV). The highest frequency of the Ltkto Ltk+ transformation observed in these experiments was approximately 10-3, whereas no measurable transformation was observed (less than 10-8) in the absence of HSV-UV infection....

The phenomena of photoreactivation (Jagger, 1958) and dark reactivation (Ellison, Erlanger, and Allen, 1955; Heinmets et al., 1954; Roberts and Aldous, 1949), while raising questions concerning the mechanism of action of ultraviolet irradiation (Zelle and Hollaender, 1955; Kimball, 1957), have also been useful tools for the study of radiation effects on living systems. Many factors which alter ...
متن کاملDark reactivation in ultraviolet irradiated Escherichia coli.
Reversal of the lethal effect of ultraviolet radiation on microorganisms by a variety of treatments has been demonstrated with two essentially different plating techniques. Cells may be plated immediately after irradiation, in which case reactivation occurs on the agar plate. By employing such a plating procedure, reactivation has been accomplished through the use of heat (Anderson, 1951), acet...
متن کاملFT-Raman Spectroscopic Studies of Nd/YAG Laser Irradiated Human Dental Enamel
FTR-Raman Spectra of human dental enamel, both laser-irradiated and untreated, are reported. Spectra are compared with hydroxyapatite. It is evident that unlike the CO2 laser, the Nd/YAG laser does not induce any chemical change in dental enamel.
